UNDERSTANDING 3D SAND WAVE DYNAMICS FOR ENGINEERING PURPOSES

Due to ambitious green energy goals the pressure on offshore area is increasing at an unprecedented pace. These developments, such as wind farms, require detailed bed level predictions. However, uncertainty in these predictions increases dramatically when dynamic forms, sand waves, are present. This case many areas, North Sea, Taiwan Strait and Banks Australia. Sand waves can grow up 25 percent of water depth, have wavelengths hundreds meters migrate with several per year. their nature size they may pose a threat activities, construction maintenance farms ship navigation. Cables pipelines become exposed foundation could unstable, due migration and/or shape changes waves. Currently data-driven methods applied predict future levels. The use process-based numerical models improve accuracy help quantifying uncertainties over time. Additionally, give insight into effects extreme events human interventions, provide solution for data-scarce areas.
